Juan's RLAC Notes
Appetizer for Dorian
written with Aryamaan Dholakia
For this project, we will be focusing on the emotions of sadness, joy, fear and anger through all the Rooftop Rhythms episodes to analyze patterns regarding how these emotions vary with time, both across semesters and through the COVID-19 pandemic.

This graph conveys how the emotions vary through each RR episode when put in chronological order.
As shown above, there are several trends and patterns that can be observed from the emotions that each episode conveys. Our goal is to analyze these patterns across time, investigate whether these emotions are mutually exclusive and provide possible explanations for these changes. As well, we will use a technique called topic modeling to identify groups of words that occur next to each other in Rooftop Rhythms, and see whether the groups that are more frequent on a given episode are related to the episode’s most frequent emotion. We aim to see if there is a group of words strongly associated to an emotion.

This heatmap’s red spots represent the most significant groups of words in each Rooftop Rhythms episode.
Through this analysis, we aim to gain insights regarding the thoughts and emotions of individuals around the world and how they, and Rooftop Rhythms as a space, have evolved in the last two years.
